The Challenge
For over 25 years, the ERP system had been running at Ellenberger, a medium-sized mechanical engineering company, grown over decades, deeply embedded in every process and long since pushed to its limits. The company manufactures machined components and supplies clients in the automotive and commercial vehicle industries. The supply chain for partners such as STUR and Bosch calls for precise planning, complete traceability and a smooth exchange of data – requirements the legacy system was no longer able to meet.
One particularly critical gap: there was no connection to clients via VDA 4905 (the German Automotive Industry Association's EDI standard for delivery schedules). Without a standardised interface, digital communication across the supply chain was barely possible. At the same time, the company lacked modern tools for production planning, quality assurance and human resources management.
Our Solution:
ODION introduced Odoo as the central ERP system – and in doing so, didn't just close the obvious gaps, but equipped the company with a fully digital operating model. At the heart of the project was the development of a bespoke VDA interface module, enabling standardised data exchange with clients and suppliers directly from within Odoo.
What stands out in particular is the holistic approach: rather than a patchwork of isolated solutions, the result was a fully integrated system in which production, warehousing, purchasing and quality assurance work seamlessly together. A modern, digital quality management manual lays the foundation for the company's next recertification to DIN EN ISO 9001.
