The Digital Factory is a machine data acquisition (MDA) system. It automatically records operational and status data directly from connected machines – such as runtimes, downtimes, unit counts, or fault messages – and makes this data available for analysis. This gives you a transparent overview of actual production workflows, without the need for manual data entry.
In principle, all machines that support the OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) protocol can be connected with ODION Digital Factory. OPC UA is a manufacturer-independent, open communication standard for data exchange in industrial automation. It was specifically developed to enable machines, PLCs (programmable logic controllers), and software systems from different manufacturers to communicate with each other in a unified way – regardless of operating system, programming language, or hardware platform.
The only requirement is that the respective machine or its controller has an OPC UA server (either integrated by the manufacturer or retrofitted, e.g., via a PLC with the appropriate module). If this is the case, the machine can generally be connected to ODION Digital Factory regardless of manufacturer, model year, or system type.
